Rosemary derives its name from the Latin words ros ("dew") and marinus ("sea") or "dew of the sea".  Smelling of a fresh rosemary twig on a hot summer day feels exactly like that, it is fresh, invigorating and clearing the mind. The ancient Egyptians, Romans, Hebrews, and Greeks considered rosemary as sacred and used it for a number of health Benefits. In the 16th century, it became famous in northern Europe with the german-swiss physician Paracelsus who was convinced about the body strengthening attributes of rosemary. Modern studies prove the aromatherapeutic benefits of inhaling rosemary especially in reducing stress-induced cortisol levels, anxiety, and respiratory problems. Apart from that and very unscientific: it feels just wonderful to have a morning shower with the refreshing aroma of rosemary.

For our soap, we distill the oil from rosemary grown here in Umbria. The best time for harvesting is on a hot day in summer when there is no rain and the oil content in the plant is very concentrated. In the midday sun, we cut the top leaves of the plants and extract the oil immediately with our copper distiller.
To complete the fragrance of this herbal soap we add essential oils and hydrosol from our fragrant umbrella pines and a hint of cedar wood from the Atlas mountains. Refreshment guaranteed.
